After working hard to declutter your home before a move, now comes the truly onerous process of actually packing up all your things and transporting them to your new home. Moving to a new location is something that can leave you both stressed and fatigued, which is why you need to maintain a healthy diet during the process to keep your energy levels up.
In today’s post, Busy Buddies, Inc. shares tips on eating healthy during your move.
Devise a Plan
Figuring out how you are going to feed yourself during your move begins before you start packing. You can choose to prepare healthy bulk meals in advance, which you can store in the refrigerator or freezer. Once hunger strikes, you can just reheat them in the microwave. You can also add some delectable non-perishable food to stock up on. By preparing healthy options in advance, you’ll be less tempted to resort to unhealthy foods during the chaos of the move.
Use Up What You Already Have
Take this as an opportunity to use up food items that you’d otherwise throw away when you move. Any unopened non-perishable items that you don’t eat before moving can be donated to a local food bank.
Leave Out Key Kitchen Items
When moving seniors, the kitchen is usually one of the first rooms to get packed up. This can make it hard to continue eating healthily during the move. While it’s okay to pack up the kitchen ahead of time, be sure to leave out a few kitchen fundamentals, including a plates, forks, spoons and bowls for you and your other family members. On moving-out day, you can simply pack them inside a marked box for easy access during unpacking.
Strike the Right Balance
There will come a time during the decluttering and packing process that you’ll probably end up making less than ideal food choices. In this case, don’t forget to supplement fast food with something more nutritious, like fruit for dessert after binging on pizza for dinner.
Stay Hydrated
Most importantly, be sure to drink plenty of water—this is a great way to replenish lost fluids, especially after cleaning all the rooms and packing things inside boxes. Do so even when you are not feeling thirsty.
