Moving to a new home is a big change, and adjusting to your new environment can take some time, especially with senior moving. Today, Busy Buddies shares some tips to make a good first impression on your new neighbors.
Do
Throw a Housewarming Party
This is a great way to get to know your neighbors, so make sure to invite everyone in the neighborhood. If you have a chance to deliver the invitations in person, that’s the best approach, but otherwise email or physical invitations sent in the mail can also work.
Greet Your Neighbors
Introduce yourself to your new neighbors and learn their names. A simple “hello” and a smile can go a long way.
Offer Small Favors
Jump at the opportunity to offer your neighbors small favors like taking care of their pets or taking their mail when they’re away.
Respect Your Neighbors
Always show respect for people and their property. Keep noise at bay, especially at night and if there are children or seniors nearby. Our senior move managers recommend checking local noise ordinances to ensure you’re in compliance.
Don’t
Block Driveways
Make sure you ask your neighbors if your parking is good before unloading your car or moving truck. Blocking driveways will prevent your neighbors from leaving.
Throw Away Trash Inappropriately
Learn how your new neighborhood disposes of trash and recycles. Look into this ahead of time since you’ll need to dispose of boxes after you have unpacked. Never use other people’s garbage bins without asking for permission.
Walk Across Property
Ensure you’re not disturbing your neighbors while moving boxes and furniture inside. Be careful carrying your belongings as you don’t want to cause accidental damage to anyone’s lawn.
