How to Create a Moving Inventory
1. Make copies of all important documents
Make copies of important documents like birth certificates, marriage certificates, wills and passports. Keep the copies and originals in separate places. Take the original with you, while the copies can move along with the household items.
2. Record all your belongings
If it’s easier for you, you can do this by using a video camera or phone camera. Also, include audio that details the cost of the item and other important information. You can also get an existing list from your insurance company or on a computer program. Make sure to add the date of purchase, the cost, and even the serial numbers and other distinctive features.
4. Take pictures
Photograph your items before moving. This will be helpful if anything goes missing during the move.
5. Make copies of the list
Upon completion of your moving inventory, make a copy and give it to a friend or a relative for safekeeping.
