Moving to a different state can be daunting. You have to think of packing, contacting the movers, setting a date, finding a home and other related activities. Of course, you also have to notify the different people and institutions that are part of your daily life regarding the move. If you have elderly parents, elderly moving services can make the process much less stressful.
In this post, Busy Buddies, Inc. discusses the parties you have to notify when moving to another state:
-
Friends and Family – Of course, your friends and family should be the first to receive the call that you’re moving. Consider hosting a farewell party so you can say goodbye to everyone at once and leave your current home on a high note.
-
Post Office – You’ll also need to notify the postal service of your new address–a process that can be easily accomplished online. You can set up mail forwarding so any mail that is sent to your old home after you move will be forwarded to your new address. Failing to do so may result in important mail being sent to your old address.
-
Employers – Your paycheck may be deposited to your bank account but you’ll still want your tax forms, retirement account statements and important documents to be sent to your new home.
-
Government Bodies – These include the Social Security Administration, the IRS, the DMV, and Voter’s Registration. Documents sent to you from the SSA and IRS may contain sensitive information that can be used to steal your identity so it’s important they are sent to the correct address. For the voter’s registration, updating your address is required for your vote to count during the next election.
-
Health Care Providers – Informing your health care providers of the move is important if you have elderly or disabled family members with you. This is to avoid missing or falling behind on medical bills and perhaps getting a referral to a doctor in the state you’re moving to. They may even be able to recommend a caring transitions service to make things easier on you and your aging loved one.
-
Utilities – These include gas companies, electric companies, the water department and the phone and Internet providers. It’s important to update your address to avoid problems.
-
Banks – You can usually do this online. Notifying your bank of the move is also a must-do when moving to avoid sensitive information being sent to your old address.
